Our Tanning Prep Protocol
The Most Important Steps To Follow
Shower & exfoliate the whole body night before or morning of your appointment. Make sure what your using is oil free. We highly recommend our Exfoliating Mitt which also removes dead skin and old tan and is simply activated with water. Shave/wax areas needed-most shaving creams contain lanolin (oil), so plain soap is best.

Previous self-tanner/spray tan must be fully removed.

Before arrival please do not apply any oils, makeup, perfumes or lotions as this can prevent the tan from sticking evenly to the skin. Avoid deodorant if possible as well. No retinols or acids on skin at least week prior as this can cause peeling.
Ensure jewelry is removed & hair is pulled back.

What to Wear to Your Appointment
Dark, loose-fitting clothes, no tights or jeans-dresses are a great option. Have an umbrella handy just in case of rain/snow, you must stay dry while developing to prevent streaks or marks.

Women -Whatever is most comfortable for you, we're a judge free, all bodies are beautiful type environment. Keep in mind if having tan lines will be an issue we recommend not wearing a bra during the tan.
Some choose to go fully nude, others wear thong & strapless bra, or topless with underwear on. Disposable thongs for women are provided if needed. We recommend no bra post tan if you don't wear one for the tan or marks will happen.

Men - bathing suit bottoms, underwear, or thong must be worn.

Please note: that there may be some minor colour transfer onto clothes or bedding only directly after tan before your first shower. This will not stain and can usually be removed in the wash.

After Care Instructions
After your tan, don’t shower for 8-10 hrs as your tan is still developing. If you chose the Rapid- min 2.5-4hrs. No exercise, sweating, getting hands or body wet, including dishwashing until you have taken your first shower after developing time has elapsed.
When showering, rinse with warm water (not hot) using hand until the water runs clean. This will ensure all developer has been removed. Your tan will then be revealed. No soaps on first rinse. We recommend our all natural Golden Vanilla Brown Sugar Soap available in store and online. This also doubles as a shave bar.

To keep your tan looking it's best & lasting long, apply an alcohol-free/perfume free moisturizer morning & night starting after your first shower. Our Beach Bum Stay Golden Tan Extending Lotion will help to preserve the life of your tan and also works on untanned skin to build a subtle glow.​

Do not exfoliate the body until the tan is almost gone, or when you would like to start to remove it. Reduce shaving as well.
Swimming in pools & the ocean is completely fine, but it can cause your tan to fade quicker from the saltwater & pool chemicals. We don't recommend the use of hot tubs until your tan is starting to fade.

Your tan can last anywhere between 5-7+ days depending on your skins integrity, tan prep and what is being used for after care. If goal is for it to last as long as possible please let us know so we can recommend the appropriate extender for you.

Due to fluctuating hormones and skin PH, only some may experience a slight difference in the colour tone or developing lighter than desired.
If pregnant, you must get an okay from your OB before treatment.
Any allergies must be noted upon booking.

Cancellation Policy (Updated 2024)
With respect to our time and yours we ask that you please provide at least 24 hours for cancellations, failure to comply a $35 fee on tan appointments if cancelled 12-24 hours before will be automatically charged. Same day cancels and no shows will require payment of full service. Future bookings cannot be made until fees have been paid. Teeth Whitening: Full Deposit will be lost.
We've had no choice but to make this policy firm as it has unfortunately become an ongoing an issue and this helps to cover a just a small portion of the lost time.

Teeth whitening bookings require a 50% deposit at time of booking and are not confirmed until deposit is received by invoice by credit card, Pay Pal or simply e transfer to beachbumspraytanning@gmail.com.
